Kaiphal/Box Myrtle
Medicinal properties :
The bark of Kaiphal possesses many medicinal properties. It is heating, stimulating and useful in catarrhal fever, cough and in the affections of the throat. The bark can be bitter and pungent and is useful in disorders related to Vata and Kapha, fever, asthma, urinary discharges, piles, bronchitis, throat complaints, tumors, anemia, chronic dysentery, and ulcers. Its snuff is useful with a headache and in curing eye diseases.
- Heavy Menstrual Bleeding : Take a tablespoon of root bark and steep it in 2 cups of boiling water for approximately 30 minutes. Drink half a cup 2 – 3 times a day.
- Sore Throat : Steep a tablespoon of Box Myrtle/Kaiphal in 2 cups of water for half an hour. Gargle 4-5 times a day.
- Varicose Veins : Prepare a decoction of the bark and use as a wash for Varicose Veins. Alternatively, make a thick salve by boiling Box Myrtle/Kaiphal bark in some water. Rub the liquid mixture on Varicose Veins.
- Wounds : Directly apply the powdered bark to wounds.
